HAVPCD267 – Virgo Gloriosa A stroll through baroque Europe Promenade à travers l’Europe baroque

This musical promenade through 17th- and 18th-century Europe aims simply to present a selection of popular and lesser-known pieces of an intimate character, with small ensembles of period instruments and a choir of men and boys, very much in the tradition of those to be found in Leipzig under Bach, in London under Purcell, or in Paris under Charpentier.

HAVPCD254 – Langlais & Vierne Vocal and choral music

Vierne’s output is mainly for the organ, and includes the 6 Symphonies, the 24 pièces en style libre, and the 24 pièces de fantaisie. Apart from Les angélus on this recording, he wrote other music for voice, for piano, for chamber music combinations, for orchestra and chorus, and sacred choral music such as the Messe solennelle. Langlais was an extremely prolific composer and his works include pieces for many different combinations of instruments and voices, although organ works predominate. He lamented the demise of the role of the organ, Gregorian chant, and singing in Latin in Paris churches, which left the musical content of the services to the discretion of the clergy.
