César Franck was born in Liège on 10 December 1822 and died in Paris on 8 November 1890. His father moved to Paris so that his son might further develop his musical gifts under François Benoist at the Conservatoire. From here Franck emerged as an exceptionally talented organist and pianist, a teacher endowed with formidable powers of communication and inspiration, and a compulsive composer. Some of his finest and most profound music is to be found among his compositions for the organ.
