The Farnham Youth Choir has achieved two remarkable goals in its short history: it has brought young voices to the highest level of technical performance and applied the style and expertise to an extremely wide range of choral material. the Choir’s unique sound derives from the age-range of the children – from 11 to 16 – and from the blending of girls’ and boys’ voices. Add to this musicianship and discipline, together with the interest created by its diverse repertoire, and you have the ingredients that have made the Choir so successful. Its quality was recognized at national level when, in November 1992, it won the biennial ‘Sainsbury’s Youth Choir of the Year Competition’.

The songs selected for the recording have been in the repertoire for about two years. The 1992 Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year Competition demanded three individual, finely-timed, musically-balanced programmes, each of which had to demonstrate a range of choral skills. All the songs performed in the competition are included on this recording, together with nine others that have been kept to performance standard.
