This recital is one of contrasts and colours, pieces that are famous and others that are less so. It is, however, designed to display the marvelous character of this organ, which is a fine example of 19th-century craftsmanship. The organ was built by Henry ‘Father’ Willis in 1879, the date of the Cathedral’s consecration. It has been sympathetically rebuilt in 1931, 1959, and 1979 by Harrison and Harrison of Durham.
