The fire of 17 September 1988 which devastated the Chapel of Tonbridge School completely destroyed the organ, which had recently been rebuilt by N. P. Mander Ltd. The new Chapel was re-dedicated on 20 October 1995, and the inaugural organ recital was given by Simon Preston, who had acted as consultant for the new Marcussen instrument. This disc provides a showcase for a wonderful instrument and the choice of repertoire combines some old favourites with more unfamiliar works.
