Rochester Cathedral is the second oldest cathedral foundation in England: the first Bishop was consecrated by St Augustine in 604 A.D. The city’s long history and culture derives from its strategic site, guarding the approach to London and the heartlands of England. Many battles have been fought here down the ages, from Ancient Britons fighting the Romans to the RAF fighting the Luftwaffe, but Rochester’s story is not only one of wars: it is also the story of Christian faithfulness, for among its great symbolic buildings are not only a bridge and a castle, but a cathedral.
