Clifton College has always been renowned for its music, which plays an important role within the college. It has been at the forefront of musical education since its foundation, being one of the first schools of its kind to appoint a full-time director of music and also one of the first to build a dedicated music school. The list of its former pupils includes Dr Boris Ord, Sir David Willcocks, Dr C. S. Lang, Joseph Cooper, and numerous other musicians in the world of performing, education, and music administration.
