Cambridge Voices? diary, on average, includes more than 60 annual engagements, of which perhaps a half are directly related to the Christian liturgical calendar. However, one of the choir’s strengths is that, having no specific church affiliation, it has been able to nurture fruitful, long-term relationships equally with Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Protestant foundations, both here and abroad, thus providing an unrivalled spectrum of opportunities for inter-denominational collaboration. This, combined with quenchless encouragement of new composers, has resulted in the performance, broadcasting and recording of more than 300 compositions and arrangements since the choir’s foundation in 1987. This CD presents some remarkable and unique compositions specially created for the choir’s more enterprising engagements.

Cambridge-based ensemble Prime Brass was formed in 1990 by trumpeter Paul Garner. It is based on the standard brass quintet of two trumpets, French horn, trombone and tuba, and also appears regularly as a ten-piece ensemble. With a repertoire from Gabrieli to Gershwin and beyond, Prime Brass is much in demand by concert-promoters throughout the Cambridge region. As well as performing recitals of its own, Prime Brass enjoys performing choral works and has a flourishing relationship with Cambridge Voices and Ian de Massini. Other choirs it has worked with include the Choir of King?s College, Cambridge under their Director Stephen Cleobury.
