The liturgical requirements of the Anglican Church vary considerably from day to day through the changing seasons of year; musicians must therefore adapt constantly to contribute in a meaningful way. As a result, modern church organists are able to exploit the organ music of several centuries from around the world in pursuit of their duties and maintain a greatly varied repertoire. Churches and cathedrals in turn have aimed to install instruments of great flexibility. Reflecting this, Clive Driskill-Smith presents a programme of varied origin and inspiration in which almost every piece can easily find its place in the musical life of Christ Church Cathedral.
