THE SCHOLA CANTORUM is the liturgical choir of The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, one of the country’s foremost Catholic Secondary schools, widely known for its academic excellence, good discipline and strong Catholic ethos. Founded in 1980, the Schola Cantorum is made up of boys and young men aged 11–18. Its principal duty is that of serving the liturgy of the School and it sings each week at the School Mass. In addition, the choir undertakes frequent external engagements and has sung at many of London’s concert halls and churches including Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, King’s College, Cambridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, St John’s, Smith Square, Cadogan Hall and the Royal Festival Hall.

The Schola tours annually: recent destinations including San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Venice, Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, Krakow, Paris, Rome, Assisi and Barcelona. The Schola has featured in Radio and TV broadcasts and in 2010 sang in a performance of the Monteverdi Vespers at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms. Several film sound – tracks feature the voices of the Schola, including the Oscar winning score for Life of Pi and Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. Film composers the choir has worked with include Danny Elfman, James Horner and Hans Zimmer.

The Schola enjoys a close relationship with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and English National Opera and boys have performed in numerous professional operatic productions over the past two decades. Other recordings by the Schola include In Honour of Our Lady, a collection of Marian music, Sing in Exultation, a collection of Christmas music, and a CD of Mendelssohn’s Lauda Sion alongside works by Dupré, Dvorák and Langlais.
