Info & track listings
Nicholas Jacksons Orgel b& uuml;chlein is a compilation of a wide variety of practical and distinctive organ music, written primarily for his own use as a cathedral and recital organist.
Following the model of Bachs Orgelb & uuml;aut;chlein, his collection is arranged according to the liturgical times and seasons of the year, and it contains Variations, Improvisations, Preludes, and Postludes based on hymn tunes and carols known to every church-goer throughout the English-speaking world.
Sir Nicholas Jackson, the Organist and Master of the Choristers at St Davids Cathedral in Wales from 1977 to 1984, has achieved increasing distinction as an organist, harpsichordist, and composer His music has a French slant, unashamedly influenced by Dupr & eacute; Durufl & eacute; whose treatment of plainsong was irresistible, and Langlais, for whom the Easter Carol is written as a homage .
The organ of the church of Saint-Antoine des Quinze-Vingts was originally built in 1894 by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll for the private concert-hall of the Baron de lEsp & eacute;e, situated on the Champs-Elys & eacute;es; it was moved to the church in 1909.
