Info & track listings

In Winchester Cathedral the annual Christmas Carol services begin with two contrasting voices. The first, soon after the lights are dimmed, is of an adult reading from the story of Creation. Then a solo treble sings the first verse of Once in Royal David’s City, a sound at once familiar yet challenging in its simplicity and directness: and Christmas is come once more.

David Hill is Organist and Master of the Music at Winchester Cathedral and one of Britain’s leading choral directors, in demand both at home and abroad as choir-trainer, orchestral conductor, and organist. Since 1988 he has been Director of the Waynflete Singers in Winchester, and is also Artistic Director of the Philharmonia Chorus. In 1998 he succeeded Sir David Willcocks as Musical Director of The Bach Choir.
