Sacred Choral and Organ Music by Simon Mold and Charles Paterson.
Simon Mold contributes a bright, accessible Easter anthem and a choral arrangement of a melody by lutenist Robert Johnson. His lush St Woolos Mass was commissioned by Christopher Barton for Newport Cathedral; and two extended anthems explore poems by Raleigh and the nineteenth century neo-metaphysical poet F W Orde Ward: My Pilgrimage, and the CD’s title track, The Beatific Vision.
Charles Paterson’s pieces comprise three Christmas carols, a bell-inspired setting of the Common Worship Communion Service (complete with a closing toccata-style voluntary for organ) written for Leicester Cathedral, two short unaccompanied anthems, a Festal Jubilate Deo in 7/8 and an organ voluntary which is an irreverent take on a familiar harvest hymn-tune.
